Elements of Competency Performance Criteria              
Element: Identify ethical, spiritual and pastoral issues requiring support.
  • Monitor the mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing of people and community groups.
  • Consult with the people and community groups to determine specific issues.
  • Research issues and analyse to determine the needs of people and community groups.
  • Analyse the situation of people and community groups to identify any immediate pastoral and spiritual care requirements.
  • Liaise with supervisor and coordinating authority to develop a support plan.
       
Element: Provide individual and community support.
  • Establish a trusting and respectful interpersonal relationship with the person.
  • Provide opportunity for the person to explore and discuss significant life events and attitudes.
  • Provide meaningful ritual, symbol and action relevant to the person and their rights and needs.
  • Provide support to significant others including family members and carers.
  • Collaborate with person’s support networks, community or faith group for ongoing involvement and support.
  • Assist other carers and community members to understand the role of pastoral and spiritual care workers.
  • Engage in pastoral, ethical and spiritual discussions with people and community groups.
  • Provide pastoral and spiritual support in accordance with organisational policies and procedures and ethical and moral guidelines.
  • Identify issues beyond scope of role and escalate and refer according to organisational policies and procedures.

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.
